５月１５日。イラク戦争には一貫して反対の立場をとり続けてきたデニス・クシニッチ米国下院議員（オハイオ州選出。民主党）に、きくちゆみ氏が、ロサンゼルスでインタビューをおこなった。
（きくち）日本で憲法改正の動きが高まっているのはご存知ですか？
（デニス・クシニッチ）日本のみなさんは、日本が平和の文化を維持出来るというモデルになることを全世界が期待しているのを知るべきです。それは日本が世界へ贈る偉大な贈物です。それは平和文化の理解を世界に伝えることであり、我が国が必要としているものです。
残念ながら、日本の憲法を変えて欲しいと思っている人たちがいます。彼らは憲法第９条を変えよう、といいます。９条こそが日本の平和貢献を保っているのに。私たちはいま生きているこの時代をしっかり見据えなければいけません。そうすればアメリカ政府が平和に貢献していないどころか、世界に戦争原則を広げていることが分かります。
日本のみなさんが人類の連帯の名の下に、日本のためだけではなく世界のために憲法９条を宝として守ることが大変重要なのです。
（きくち）どうもありがとうございます。しかしアメリカから（改憲の）圧力がきていることを知っていますか？そして日本政府は私たちよりもホワイトハウスの言うことを聞く傾向があるのです。それに対して私たちはなにができるでしょうか。
（クシニッチ）私はアメリカ合衆国連邦議会の一議員として発言しています。米国政府はイラクに関して間違いを犯しました。アメリカ国民はウソをつかれました。私たちに攻撃もしていない国とアメリカは戦争をしています。その結果、私たちと何も問題などない人びとに惨禍をもたらしました。アメリカはいまや非常に困難な時期を迎えています。アメリカの過ちを日本が共有する理由はどこにもありません。アメリカがこのような時期にあるときこそ、私たちは人類連帯の名の下に世界の人びとと再結合するのです。今日、私たちの指導者たちは国際社会から私たちを分離させようとしています。日本を国際社会から分離させてはいけません。世界平和への願望から引き離してはいけません。

The People of Japan should be
aware that the whole world is looking to Japan to help demonstrate that it is
possible to maintain a culutre of peace, that now is Japan's great gift to the world, to tramsmit to the world the understanding of a culture of
peace that something we need in this country. Unfortunately there're some who
want Japan to change the constitution of Japan and change Article 9 which
keeps Japan dedicated to peace. And we have
to look at the time that we're living in and see that our US administration is not dedicated
to peace and they're trying to spread the priciple of
war all over the world. It is so important that the people of Japan in the name of human solidarity
hold on Article 9 as a treasure, not only for Japan but for the world.
Thank you veru
much. But you know the pressure is coming from the US. And our government tends to
listen to Whitehouse more than us. What can we do about it?
I'm speaking now as a member of
US Congress. Our adminstration has been wrong about Iraq. The American people were lied
to. We are into war against the nation that didn't attack us. And as such we
brought misery to people who had no quarrel with us. The US is going through very difficult
period right now. There's no reason why Japan should have to share in the
mistakes of US. And so the US has come through this period
where we will reunite with the people of the world in the name of human solidarity.
Today we have leaders are separating us from the world community. Do not let
them cause Japan to be separated from the world
community and our aspirations for peace in the world.
