Thought for the
day     TM Iwai
Yesterday I read one book written by Shigeaki Hinohara,
the chief director
of St. Luke International Hospital.  The title of this
book is gCatch the
Serendipity,  KOUHUKUNA GUUZENN wo tukamaeru.h  The main
theme of this book
is happiness and fortuity in our life. The author tells us
how we can have
happy lives
In this book, he quotes a fairy tale of
three princes in Serendip.
Serendip is the old name of a kingdom in Sri
Lanka. In this tale, three
princes had traveled in search of treasures for
long period.  Although they
had failed to find the treasures, through many
experiences in their travel,
they had finally found the wisdom and courage
inside of them. The wisdom and
courage are unexpected, but real treasures for
them.
From this story, serendipity means the effect by which someone
accidentally
discovers something fortunate and happy.  Serendipity is the
ability to get
happy happenings. Columbus discovered the American Continent
by chance.
Fleming invented the penicillin injection
accidentally.
Hinohara emphasized that if we have an attitude to change
failures into good
chances, we can catch the serendipity. He tells such
positive attitudes lead
us happy@lives. In our life we have many happy
happenings. Letfs try to
find a happy happening today.
